One of my friends has recently suffered a relationship break up, her dog has had to be rehomed as she worked full time, a few days on and she has now reconciled with partner - they obviously miss their dog and want to get him back but how can they - he was sent to foster home with Lab Resuce - any advice >

I don't think there's any harm in them asking if the dog has been rehomed. In the news there are so many animals being handed in as people can't afford them, that they might be glad to place him back in his own home.

The dog won't know why he was moved and probably think he's been on holiday!
I would think if the dog was taken in by foster carers, and not adopted, there is a chance that with a lot of explaining it may be possible to have their dog returned to them. If this works I would suggest a fairly substantial donation to Lab Rescue. (A few heartfelt tears might help, when explaining the stress and circumstances). I truly hope there will be a happy ending to this sad tale. Please let me know.
Just a thought but maybe it may be an idea to see if the reconciliation is going to work before moving the dog again. If you chat with Lab rescue and explain the reasons they may keep the dog in a foster home for a while (and a generous donation) .
Any official Lab rescue would have insisted they sign the dog over, and in that case there is no comeback. Without knowing the people or the details it is difficult to know but surely break ups don't happen overnight, they must have been considering it and who knows how long they will stay together. It is a drastic step to rehome a dog, might have been better to board it till they knew where they were. The rescue people will want what is best for the dog, and they need to consider how permanent the reconciliation is likely to be before unsettling the dog again.
providing they can proove they are back to gether im sure they would much rather the dog be home with people it knows

The couple are back together now, but Lab Rescue were quite rude to her, saying they have now rehomed their beloved dog....how sad !!!! My friend is now distraught, as Lab Rescue told her the dog was going to foster home first, the lady she spoke to said under no circumstances can she have her dog back...how terrible !!!! Her dog was taken in last Saturday and she phoned up Monday morning !
So the dog was taken in on Saturday and then they called on Monday to reclaim. I am not surprised they were refused.Any animal is a commitment and we can't just let them come and go as it suits us.The charity not doubt thought the couple were unreliable as owners and that the dog could be passed back to them again the next time they argue.
If the couple were only apart for a few days then it was hardly a break up.
