ford focus audio system model 4000 1999

Upon attempting to enter the keycode after fitting a new battery ,the no. 2 button on the removable front panel does not respond. My question is the fault within this removable front panel or with the system itself ?

It could be either - but it is a common fault that the faceoff is not on properly so it is always worth checking
