best scone recipe - or variations of same

Would love to make nice scones. Like plain and cherry ones, but any other variation ideas welcome. Please and thanks.

You will become very popular if you make some of my famous cheese scones hehe...

Cheese Scones

4 oz (100g) plain white flour
4 oz (100g) wholewheat flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp salt
2 oz (50g) margarine
6 oz (150g) strong cheddar cheese, grated
� pint (150 ml) milk (any sort)
� tsp cayenne pepper

Preheat oven to 450 deg F, Gas Mark 8, 230 deg C. Mix flours, bicarb, cream of tartar and salt together, then rub in the margarine. Add 4 oz of the cheddar and nearly � pint of milk, mix quickly with a fork and combine to form a stiff dough. Roll out on a floured board to �� thick and cut into rounds with a 2�� fluted cutter. Place scones on floured baking tray, brush each with a little milk. Mix the remaining 2 oz cheddar with the cayenne pepper and sprinkle over the top of each scone. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes until risen and golden brown. Remove from baking sheet and serve warm with butter. Also very nice cold !
