I recently bought a 2001 model of the Honda HRV 4 x 4 and wish to know how it swiches from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive automatically. I understand that it should take place when one wheel looses traction but is there a way of testing it does function other than waiting to see if it works. I imagine it would be tested at a garage qualified to service this model but wondered if it was possible to check myself. I can't see any sign of an indicator light on the dashboard either which would tell me when it operated. Your help is appreciated. Tel

Hi, I am going off a Motor I hired on Hols a while ago, The 4 W D comes in when it is switched on on the particular car, To try yourself, with safety in mind, Handbrake on, Jack one wheel off the floor and see it the 4 W D Indicator shows up on your dash.
I've had an 02 Honda HRV for 3+ years, there's no indication on the dash when it engages 4WD, but believe me it KNOWS when it hits snow or other slippery surfaces. In recent snows of up to a foot deep it was superb, excellent traction on snow covered gradients, but would still slide on ice I think. I assume that the garage checks the 4WD exchange when I have the car serviced. Try the Honda websites.

There is nothing better than having a 4WD vehicle and being able to overtake other struggling vehicles in snowy conditions!
