I have a basic skateboard computer game I want to load onto my laptop for my son.  I have done it before but for some reason I cannot install it anymore.  I get the following error message in a window titled '16 bit windows subsystem' - c:/program/symantec/s32evnt.dll an installable virtual device driver failed dll initialisation.'  - does this mean I have a virtual device driver problem or is it to do with Symantec (which I no longer have on my system  and I thought was to do with Norton? )  I hope somebody can make sense of this!!!  Many thanks!

During the uninstall of Symantec it has failed to remove all of its Dll's from the registry. Look here

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314452

It means messing with the registry so take care and triple check everything before pressing delete.

Whats happening is that the Dll is trying to initialise a virus scan of the game prior to install but there is no code behind it to finish the job.

Pi - thank you so much.  I have now removed all trace of symantec and this has fixed this particular error.  Unfortunately I'm getting another one - which I'm going to post as a separate query on Answerbank.  Thanks for your comprehensive reply!!
