Layout of telephone / computer keypads

Why do telephone keypads begin with 1, 2, 3 at the top, while computer and calculator keypads begin 7, 8, 9 ? At work i use both the telephone and a calculator a great deal and it really throws me when having to change from one layout to another. Why don't they start making them the same ?
