Morning, greyfox. As usual, thanks for the link.
Thank you greyfox !
Thanks again for the link greyfox.

On the first read through I thought I was in for a long slog having only filled in half a dozen or so, but then it became a breeze!
Many thanks for link
We're having a hard time getting into this one - thank you, Greyfox.
Thank you for the link, greyfox, you hoped in vain!
Just completed it with a breathy sigh of relief. This took us about twice as long as usual with those six 'other' definitions causing considerable moaning until we had got wind of what was going on. I wonder how people without some sort of search engine find that other thematic item (even if it is in a logical place in relation to all the others). Clever, this one, but almost too difficult - rather more difficult than the easier Listeners wasn't it?
Just noticed a problem in the on-line version - be careful if you are mailing an entry to the Spectator, as the number has not been updated in the text below! It should, of course, read, 'Entries to: Crossword 1906 ... etc.
Well spotted Ruthrobin ! 34 across was only the third clue I solved, so I must admit the theme turned up early on for me. I know some blow hot and cold about these puzzles, but I enjoyed this one - thanks Lavatch !
Thanks for the link greyfox. Must admit I'm now intrigued by the comments, but it's in a queue. Doubt if I'll start it before Saturday.
Hello Christiana
You'll finish this aquickly as the last EV! Not much N&C here!
Ciao ciao
Hi
I've finished the Xwd as such (it was a breeze), but am finding it difficult to locate the extra 5 letter W*** in the grid. Any clues to where I might find it would be appreciated
Cheers
Could it be the alternative (Latin) spelling of a Greek W***?
Could someone also explain to me the wordplay for 30 D (I have 'etched' as the solution)
Hi crucifernz. -
30d Striking fellow got - (F)etched.

That's the "W "I have - as Ruthrobin has said, it's in a logical place in the grid.

Chambers defines your missing word as ' the South East or less exactly, East wind'. It's from Greek mythology and is a variant spelling of the Latin name. Do you want the letter it starts with as a further clue?

Got = Fetched, Remove ('Striking' )the F(ellow) = Etched

Thanks folks. All sorted!
I ought to be more diligent in following these threads. I read Ruthrobin's comment about the submission details a few days after posting my entry and now I can't remember what I put on the envelope! I enjoyed the puzzle, but I'd be a bit peeved if my envelope went straight into the wrong bin.
Sounds to me like you should print another one off and send that in just in case - you'll sleep easy and might increase your odds in the draw !!
