Who remembers the girls using gravy browning or potassium permanganate crystals (soaked in water), to tan their legs, and then using a black eyebrow pencil to draw the seam. After all the palaver of getting it just right, then hoping to goodness it didn't rain. :-)

I remember my grandpa telling me that as he had a steady hand he used to draw the lines up the middle of many girls legs!!!!

He also told me that a friend of his sister's once had a dog follow her trying to lick her legs (for the gravy browning)but I think he could have been joking!
