I know this is an odd thing to ask about but i was reading in a pregnancy magazine that if u start massaging the perineum (area between the vagina and anus) using vegetable oil for about 10mins a day, at 35weeks + helps it stretch during delivery so that a tear is avoided (which i obviously dont want a tear if i can help it lol)

Just wondered if any1 has tried this or knows about it and could tell me exactly what im suppost to be doing as doesnt explain much. I dont really fancy asking my midwife about this lol

Stop it knobby, for God's sake. shaunzy doesn't desrve CB's nastiness spilling out onto her post.

Show a little respect eh?
Taking my size into account (all belly and boobs) I don't think that I could reach.

Should have massaged toby or his mum should have!!
wolf63......you don't have to do it yourself.
once again i apologise to shaunzy, just having a laugh when i posted the original answer!!

Poor shaunzy , you'd be better off asking your midwife , they're they to answer anything you ask , and , yes , they will have heard it all before .
At the birth the midwife will do all she can to avoid a tear , I have never had any of my ladies tear , though have had to do an episiotomy on some . If you pant when asked to this will help too to avoid a tear as the midwife controls babys head delivery , and then rotates the baby to change presentation of the babys shoulders .
And if you do tear- it's not as bad as it sounds you know, honest! I tore with both my children, and apart from the initial discomfort of having the stitches done (note, discomfort, not pain!) you really don't notice them afterwards. Well, when I say don't notice them....the whole area down there is.....well....nevermind, don't want to scare you further!

Good luck :-)
