IDE and PATA drives. Are they the same?

Looking at replacing my Sony laptop hard drive (as per earlier post). I just want to confirm whether IDE and PATA are the same? Would make my hunt for a new drive so much easier if it is. Thank you

yes they are,

stay clear of SATA or serial ATA though they are the different ones

it's advisable to get a faster one...

the faster the drive the faster your computer can load information when it needs it
yes they are the the same.

pata and sata are the different drives.
