I don't have any two legged children myself but I know that my mother breastfed my brother until he was about three.

Mum used to say that he made commando type escapes from his cot at night and ambushed mum when she was asleep. Not sure about the truth in this statement though.

:-)
When my son was born, he drank 8 of those little bottles of cow and gate before we left the delivery room ! I did try the breast thing, but it never worked - in a way I am glad - I don't think I would have seen the light of day for a year !!

What really pees me off, is mothers who don't breast feed are someway made to feel inadequate.

I think if you can - then fine - but if you can't - then also fine.
Sorry but Little Britain's 'Bitty' sketch sprang to mind when I read the question....!!LOL
I tried with all 3 of mine and I couldn't fill them-they were all hungry little pigs. They were all on the bottle by 3 weeks.
Some people continue to do it up until the child is 8! I'm not looking forward to it, for purely selfish reasons, as I'm worried my breasts may end up looking like deflated balloons.

If I am able to do it, then I intend to do it for a short a time as possible, just long enough for baby to get his dose of Antibodies.
I think its gross!
I never wanted to breastfeed my daughter as the idea repulsed me, let alone doing it when she was 3! I know thats what boobs really are for but I dont think of mine in that way!
Child 1 - Only about 3 months as I had too much milk and squirted everywhere when someone else's baby cried.

Child 2 - 15 months and only stopped because my periods returned.

Child 3 - 9 months and he stopped. He woke in the night and I went to give a quick feed to settle him and looked at me like I was some sort of perv trying to stick my tit in his mouth.

I cried :-(
Velvetee - It hasn't effected mine so don't worry.

It's bloody painful though. I remember blood coming out of my son's mouth while feeding. Toe curling...!!!
How funny Ummm! Well mine have got a bit bigger with pregnancy and I'm not sure I like the look of them, they seem to have grown more a the sides and think they will be big and droopy.

I suppose in the first few months it can be more convenient, especially at night, but still doesn't appeal to me. My partner would like me to do it, but he also doesn't want me to take any pain relief, in case I need a ventouse or forceps and baby ends up with a long head.
Mine went up to a FF with the first and only went down to an E. After the third the shrank to a C but still didn't go droopy. They are back to a DD now.

Don't listen to anyone about pain relief. I had an epidural with my second but it didn't work. It paralysed my legs but I could still feel all the pain. So with my third I decided I wouldn't have anything. When I did ask for drugs I was told the dreaded words 'sorry, it's too late' I was convinced she wouldn't give me drugs because she didn't like me..!!!

I was glad I didn't have any after though.

A man shouldn't have an opinion....put him in his place girl :-)
Child one fed him until I was 3 months pregnant with no 2 ( He was about 9 months old when I stopped breastfeeding him) No 2 took herself off completely at 13 months ( the comment about the baby's "perv " look was about right )....altho she just said NO ! Yup I cried. No 3 fed until 12 months old and again took herself off. I loved breastfeeding and was lucky as I found it very easy and I still dont have droopy boobs.
Each to their own opinions
i tried but wassnt very successful with either of my two - I managed 10 days with each before sheer exhaustion took over and my OH could then help out
They had gotten the antibodies etc by then too

I was never earth mother enough to flash and feed so It would have restricted me to home for a very long time

Also my aunt (very earth mother) didnt stop breast feeding until they started school - hand on heart I can't say which school .....................................................................
and yes I do mean primary or secondary

Thats when it really is over the top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also watched a program on it when 3 or 4 year olds have to weaned from 'mummy milk' as there is a new baby ont he way and it can cause problems
the same program also had a wierd section on Dad getting in on the act ...............................................

Still fancy breast feeding ????????????????
personally I don't think it's a good look if your son's bringing the girlfriend home.......
didn't feed any and all three survived; 30, 36 & 40.
I breastfed my son until he was two,he wouldn't take milk from a bottle or beaker and wouldn't drink juice or water either so I had no choice.
I managed about 3days before I had to back into hospital alone. I thought that the whole idea was gross too but was too scared to admit that as I thought I would be judged! When I got out of hospital again I tried to bfreast feed again and did get the hang of it but just wasnt 'producing' (I hate that word - I'm not a cow!) enough, so we did mixed feeding for about 2/3 weeks then I gave up and she was just bottle fed. I cried about this too because of all the breast is best rubbish and then my daughter started to have health problems and stopped gaining weight and I really began to beat myself up thinking it was all my fault....turns out she would have had problems anyway!

I would definitley try it next time but not for longer than 6weeks.

As for convenience get a Lindam night & day feeding system - I was almost dissapointed that my LO decided to sleep through from 5weeks old because I had one of these and enjoyed a sleepy early morning cuddle!
I fed my son for 17 months and my daughter 21 months. They were both nightmare sleepers and it was the only way I could get them back to sleep. Neither one would take a bottle or dummy. Was hard work at the time but both are hardly ever ill and have never had a day off school through sickness! Dont get why women feel weird about it, it's natural. Cows milk is for baby cows.
