My son says thats stephen fry said it means Quiet Interesting, i think it means Quantum whatever !!!

It stands for Quite Interesting. If you watch the credits at the end you will see it is made by Quite Interesting Productions.

QI stands for Quite Interesting (not quiet!)
I think it is also a play on words (or letters in this case) on IQ which stands for Intelligent Quotient.
