I think you probably mean "A pig in a poke". Poke being slang for a bag. Literally, buying something which you haven't checked out properly, because you can't see the pig through a bag! It now means buying something which turns out to be a dud, or not as good as expected.
The correct saying is "don't buy a pig in a poke". It means that you should make sure what the goods are before you buy them. A "poke" was a small canvas sack which a farmer would use to transport his pig to market and you were advised not to buy the pig unseen in the "poke". This was because an unscrupulous farmer would really be selling you a cat and not a pig. If someone untied the bag, accidentally or on purpose, they would give the secret away and would have "let the cat out of the bag". How's that - two answers for the price of one!
