My Dad is 71 and my mum has just very recently passed away, she was only 70m, I am now worried about my Dads finances, does anybody know what my Dad can now claim for, he has his own house, my Mum had a small amount of saving's, which I think will be used for the Funeral. My Mum had paid into the state for years and she only had ten years worth of Pension, can it be transfered to my Dad? I,m sorry i don't understand Pensions etc.

He will be able to have his council tax deducted by 25% if he lives on his own, not sure about your mothers pension.
if you are talking of a state pension, no it wont be transferred.
Your best bet is to contact your local CAB for advice. They will do a benefits check and discuss what he may be entitled to.
Does your Dad have his own state pension? If not, or if his total income from pensions & any other sources is less than about 124 per week then he will be entitled to Pension Credit. If he gets that then all his Council Tax will be paid by benefit.

Get him to go to CAB, as advised.
