My son has installed a Creative Audigy 2 sound card into his pc and has got Creative Inspire T7900 7.1 surround sound speakers fitted. All of the speakers work correctly when he is playing games, however when he tries to listen to music using Windows Media Player, sound only comes out of the front 3 speakers. He says that it is configured properly, has anyone got any ideas what the problem might be?

Try downloading WIMAMP, has some good plugins on the site for output through multiple speakers.
Personally, i would say that its working properly - Basically, music files (mp3 etc) are recorded in stereo which is only 2 channels (left and right).

agree with potatoman.

just cos he has loads of speakers doesnt mean that they will all be utilised.some games probably dont utilise all of them as they will have been coded for 5.1 surround
