My friend started her maternity leave on 10th September last year, her baby was born 15th October. She is going back to work on 10th April BEFORE her entitled 9 month paid maternity leave finishes (should be June) but only at 20 hours per week for the first 2 months then 35 hours per week after that, she has been receiving the government stat maternity pay of about 492 per month. I think she assumes she will still get the 492 statutory maternity pay for 2 months on top of her monthly salary? I didn't think she would, but it seems strange for her to forefeit the governments stat mat pay for 2 months when her 20 hour per week salary will only be about 550 per month? Whats the point in her going to work for an extra 50 per month.

yummymum - there is no point - she should stay off until june and enjoy her baby while she can and then go back to her 35 hrs per week after that !!!- 50 a month is not worth going in for, is it?
