omg... came home from shops today to find my 3 little chicks murdered!! By my escapee ferret!!
She was happily in her cage asleep when i left, came home not long after and she had forced her cage door open, and had somehow squeezed through the chicks cage and killed them!! god knows how she did it, but obviously she is guilty as there is no other explanation as they has blood round their throats and all 3 had broken necks!
I feel terrible, i raised them from fertile eggs till hatch then the last 4 weeks, i was only playing with them this morn too, they were growing so well..... I hope they are in chookie heaven!! xx

Francheska. You really are a pain. Did you have to come on here with your nonsense, when Sheribee is so upset. You are a disgrace.

Thanks guys! I just feel sooo guilty! my poor babies!!
I kno she was shut away properly, i put her away just b4 i went out.
I just dont understand why she just killed them, and didnt eat them?? surely thats not right, animals kill for food, not for fun!
hi sheribee so sorry to hear your ferret got the chicks a fox got in with ours years ago and killed all 20 of my hens only took a couple away left the rest in carnage behind for me to find it ,wasnt your fault these things happen so dont blame yourself
So sorry to learn about your chicks. Some think it is silly to get attached to chickens but there is no reason why they shouldn't be as adorable as a cat or dog.

Unfortunately, some animals like ferrets (and foxes) do kill more than they can eat but, unlike humans, not for pleasure or malice but they usually try to bury the surplus for when prey is scarce. Not that this makes much difference to you but it is a natural behaviour, not nastiness.
Ferretts are mean little things, but its only their nature unfortunately. Sorry to hear about the chicks tho!
Nature in the raw!

Your responsibility when you keep such animals to ensure their safety.
I am sure sheribee takes great care of her animals, but accidents like this can happen. I unfortunately didn't secure a cage door properly many years ago and came home to a guilty looking dog and a couple of budgie feathers!

Don't feel guilty sheribee.

xxxx
sorry to hear about your chicks!
xx
So you keep ferrets and chicks and are now surprised that your chicks are dead??

Crazy! You might as well keep lions and antelopes in the same enclosure.

I dont keep them near each other, the ferrets are in a indoor enclosure, and the chicks r in a seperate room, up on a table in another enclosure, i am totally amazed at how she could have got them! I take every care with my animals, have been lovingly rearing my chicks and would never put them in danger!! dogs can turn on cats and kill them, yet many people keep both! I feel so bad, but i know there was nothing more i could have done to protect them!
My girls were upset, didnt tell them neave did it, just that chicks can get poorly, and these ones did and sadly they died, poor kids cried! so did i!! I love my chickens to bits, rightly so, they are my pets and amazing creatures.... and i still love my neave, she just did what ferrets do x
The ferret didn't "murder" anything - it's a carnivorous predator. That's what they do. - it's not premeditated homicide!I have to agree with another-view - ferrets / chicks in the same house = asking for trouble.
