How to stop message saying hardware found

I keep getting a message on my laptop everytime I start it up saying "video controller" hardware found (VGA compatable)...... what does this mean and why am I getting it?  I do not have anything plugged into the laptop apart from my internet usb cable.  Any ideas?  Thanks

Click on the bubble next time and then click on "Next" until it finally disappears, Sounds like the graphics card software was never installed correctly. XP will have the drivers and should auto-install for you.
Just to add to that - it's best to get the graphics driver software from your Laptop manufacturer's website. Go to it and find your model and download and install the drivers for it. You will be able to use the embedded Windows drivers if you want, but performance using this tends to be less than optimal (because they are generic and not specialised towards your specific hardware).

Thank you so much for your responses. Mobius1 - I'm really gratefull to you because I didn't even know I could get downloads from my Laptop manufacturer.  It turns out that Sony have released quite a few updates for my laptop especially since Microsoft released SP2 - well it certainly explains why I've had so many problems!!  Hopefully now I can keep it uptodate!!  Thanks again!
