I have several hundreds of slides which are beginning to show age. I have seen many scanners which say "They are good," but do not know what to look for.

One caught my eye on Amazon,

Veho VFS-004 5MP 35mm Negative & Slide Scanner

I am using a Dell PC with Vista; I use Photoshop Elements 6.0 to edit and organise my photos

Sure would appreciate some advice. Got some good shots from my seafaring days.

several hundreds of slides

Unless you have loads of spare time consider paying a professional company to do it rather than spending the money on a decent scanner. it will take probably weeks if not months to scan several hundred slides
Chuck is right. I bought a dedicated slide and negative scanner from Jessops - advertised as 'quick'. It takes at least 2 minutes per slide.
I'd agree with the above: it will take a long time.

But, I have used a Nikon Coolscan (V ED I think); they at the time were highly rated, and work very well.

Thanks for the replies everybody

Now I remember how long it took me to scan my photo albums................do I really want to take on this project, even though I'm retired.

I may still want to scan some of them, as I review them before stowing them in the attic. I remember some pretty good slide shows, especially after a wild patrol in the North Sea, or the extreme North or South Atlantic.

Just out of curiosity, I'll take a look at the Nikon Coolscan
