Has anyone had problems with their hair falling out sometime in their life?
I still have a good head of hair, but nowadays my hair has been coming out,not in clumps, but strands.
I wonder if it's something to do with either not washing my hair enough,or with the common congested cold which I have got (which involves headaches).I've had a cold for about a week now.
I wash my hair about every 3 or 4 days.If I pull my hair(not too hard),I have at least a strand or two/three of hair in my hand.
Is this normal,or should I be worried?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.......

have you got long hair?

Everyone moults - it's just more noticeable with long hair. Seasonal changes make you moult too.
Have you been checked for thyroid problems?
This can cause hair loss.

However a few strands does not seem excessive to me, and surely if you pull your hair, at least a few hairs will come out.

Well,I have shortish hair tamborine.
I really hope it could be seasonal changes.
Hmmm,I haven't been checked for thyroid problems yet Silkcut. How will I know if my thyroids are not working correctly?
Will there be some kind of pain,or something?
Imhotep...there are two types of tyroid problem
hypo (under activation) of the thyroid and hyper (over activation) of the thyroid. Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
You dont feel any pain but could end up sluggish, and depressed with the first one, and hyperT is when you are moving around all the time..(as in hyper) and weight loss can result. A tyroxine tablet taken every day can help with this imbalance. Also a simple blood test at the doctors can either prove or eliminate this.
Maybe do a google check to read more about it.

chances are you are not affected, it was just something that crossed my mind.

I am truly grateful for your advice Silkcut.
You are most kind, and really helpful.

My brother is a GP,and I will most definitely have a word with him about it.I have even printed out this thread just to show him (your advice) and that other people are thinking about me.
I just thought that would be a nice gesture.
So many thanks once again.
Not a problem Imhotep. As i said chances are your thyroid is ok but its worth getting it checked as its something that a lot of doctors never think of. Also it can miss a generation (as has happened with me).. Let me know how you get on at the doctor anyhow.
Aww...it's perfectly normal to lose quite a few strands of hair per day, but if it's got noticeably worse just recently, do as the others've said and ask your doctor for a blood test to determine thyroid activity.
Then again hun - perhaps it's just a normal process, and a hereditary thinning of your hair. I doubt very much that it's due to washing or under-washing it. In fact, the action of rubbing your scalp can be good for you.

Mmmmm, more sound advice from you lovely people.
Many thanks Ice!
It would be wonderful if you could massage my scalp with your wonderful gorgeous hands.
Just don't tell your hubby, that's all!!
^_^
If it's not a rude question imhotep, how old (ish) are you?
Trendy cuts today hardly need a brush or comb I only ever run my fingers thro my shortish hair that put strain on the strands. Have a course of sea kelp tablets from Boots for a month - that'll increase growth of hair & nails.
I seem to remember reading that around 100 strands per day is normal
Think you're right pasta - 100-150 is a rough average.
Lol @ Imhotep! Hair's got to be extremely clean and soft before I'd want to run my hands through it. The Husband says it's MY fault - I should wash the horse muck off my hands first.......

Lol at your comment there Ice.

Hi pips! How you doing hun?
Well,I am two scores plus a couple of years extra.
That should give you a clue on how old I am.

Mmmm,that's a nice thought tamborine.
I might try sea kelp tablets one day.
Better see the doc first though!!
i reckon you're worrying for nothing Imhotep...Dai?????? : )
Hi imhotep, I'm fine thanks. As you are still fairly young I would have said not to worry too much yet. It may be because you've not been too well, it tells on your hair sometimes, but I'm no expert.
Shot in the dark. I'm male and of course have lost a lot of my hair. This has improved though since I read that rinsing a strong mix of coffee through the hair helps strengthen the roots. Use a normal shampoo after to get rid of the smell!!
I notice that Boots now sell a caffeine shampoo. It may work for you if you are worried.
I went through a period of losing my hair really went thin that you could see my scalp easily, but it bounced back sometime later try taking a supplement like silica,i was suffering from stress and lack of vitamins, maybe thats what you are lacking!!!
When I was going through a tough time & under bad stress I had a similar thing I lost quite alot of my hair. I put it down to stress for me.
