was it a tin? Or was it a caddy? If you kept the tea in it and it's purpose was to keep tea in it, it was a caddy. If it was a tin, you wouldn't keep your tea in it, you would take the tea out and put it in a caddy and throw the tin away. (Or save it to keep buttons in or something if this was 1950)
