Hello.
In my work enviroment, one of my colleagues got one of two needed passwords to access secure data, and he handed it to me. I have never used it, because of the consequences. But if i am caught now without using it, intending to use it, or sharing it, would i have breached the data protection act 1998.

thank you.

Not covered by the data protection act.

the data protection act relates to personal information kept about you. not passwords

However having an unauthorised password will probably breach your terms of employment. In many companies that would be a dismissal offence.
also depends who you work for ... data protection could be the least of your problems.

if it's personnel info ... you could be in breach of dpa
if banking it could be criminal in a few ways
if it's worse than that you could end up with a radioactive sandwich ... or the point of an umbrella up your ....

having heard may not be defence but certainly where I am ... being sent porn or accessing it isn't a sackable on it's own ... sending certainly is ...as is recieving or accessing more than once

but when you say gave ... did he e-mail it to you
tattoo it on your forehead ... or just whisper it in a tender moment?
