some of us do.
There's plenty of faith about - it just is no longer channelled into traditional religious channels. But plenty of people believe in Astrology, crystal healing, homeopathy and so forth.
Because logic is so - logical. We all want to believe in magic and fairy tales, but my intellect prevents me from doing so. I am not a superstitious peasant, science and reason are explaining the universe quite well at the moment, all faith does is provide an answer to the unknown where we lack the resolve or ability to seek an answer, which is something I will never lose.
I'm with El D, it's a welcome result of education and free thought. But, if it cheer's you up any, I think we're still the minority.

You've really answered your own question - blind faith is just that! Why would you choose to be blind and shut your eyes to reason, logic and science?

What is it you want us to have faith in anyway?

<P align=justify>Hi, I submitted question, well actually, to the last answer posted to this question, that is exacitally the type of question I would expect someone who sleeps with thier eye's open to answer, who never quite can touch thier dreams because thier dreams are non excistint but more or less goals. I do not want you to believe in something it is you that would find your own beliefs. And to always keep your eye's wide open you sometimes miss what is right infront of you.Like a crack hoe, All you can learn of is of life now and the physical body, what will be of you after death, I guess nothing because you are the skeptics, you are nothing, when you die. I think you have to believe in more then what others have studied for you, and learn to use your own mind with certain things not everything, but who would have thought, the earth is round, well if we would have had internet then , you who've posted theese opinions, though I do respect, would have been the one's to post the could be&nbsp;discouraging words to Colombus, but you know what I think he'd of travled this round earth anyway!&nbsp; Because his mind was obviously open. Please post more I enjoy hearing theese opinions.&nbsp; Silly moo email me

What are you talking about - when the majority consensus was that the earth was flat, empirical observation and logical analysis of that evidence i.e. the shape of the horizon - gave us the answer that still holds true. You are the one closing your mind to such matters, all blind faith does is discourage challenging the status quo. If Columbus didn;t want answers, he wouldn;t have sailed, it is your school of thought that would have discouraged him. Blind faith is a relic left over from the Dark Ages of human development.
blind faith is NEVER a good idea. Even people who have a faith or faith in something can tell you why they believe it. As for listening to your heart...different discussion.
Woofgang and El D I couldn't agree more. I don't belong to any religion, I'm not babtized and don't believe in any higher being of any kind, I don't see how this make me less able to dream. And blind faith? A good critical sense never hurt anyone, well it did, but as written above, it was because of people with blind faith!

I totally agree with El D, Woofgang and Kaktus here with regard to "blind" faith. I know that El D and Kaktus are both atheists but I have the utmost respect for their opinions. I sometimes may disagree with them but all three of them make good, sound points when they contribute here. In this instance I agree with them. It is vital to apply reason and logic in our lives. "Blind" faith is dangerous. It is not good just to follow our hearts. Even people in some relationships that have gone wrong can bear testimony to that.

Jesus even said the same when he talked of loving God and our neighbour with our minds as well as our hearts. Our minds (heads) have to be a part of the process.

Faith itself, of course, can not be proven by science and logic but I believe we should test things as far as we can with logic and reason - even the Bible. As one of my theology lecturers once said: "There are some people who would believe that Jonah swallowed the whale if the Bible said it. A critical mind is necessary."

Although I am a believer, and I acknowledge that part of that involves an ultimate step in the dark (beyond logic and reason), I have always used logic and reason as far as possible in the areas that can be tested. And, yes, I do believe that there are certain things that do come into the realm of things that cannot be tested empirically - such as love, aesthetic qualities (beauty etc) and some social concepts too. It is not possible to scientifically prove that one person loves another. We just have to try and interpret the clues/signs with the knowledge that we have.

Ideas and visions is something else but the ones whose ideas and visions tend to work are those who have applied logic and reason to consider how feasible it is. Totally agree with El D on this.

Can I please point out that 'some of us do' was in answer to the question at the end - i.e. why doesn't anyone listen to their heart.
Surely faith is of necessity 'blind'. If there is proof then faith is not needed?

A saying seen on a card;

faith is putting out one's foot in the mist and finding it on a rock.
Silly moo, I agree that part of faith is blind and I see that as the end part as I stated above. Faith is like trust. It is not good to blindly trust anything or anyone. We have to use our knowledge/experience etc in the process to decide whether we can trust in something or someone. I believe it is the same with faith. We have to test it as far as we are able but the final part is the "blind" part - the step in the dark.

silly moo

Faith is believing that the rock is there. If you step forward in the mist to find that your faith is justified - then that is luck, not faith.
