Last night we were just dropping off to sleep when we heard this strange sound from the bathroom, a bit like a coiled spring. The light bulb (ordinary bayonet type fitting) had come out of the fitting dropped on to the floor and shattered into a thousand pieces. It had been in their for several years granted, but we have never come across anything like this before. How the heck did it manage to twist itself out of the fitting? Any ideas?

has the fitting itself deteriorated and broken?

Only the glass part of the bulb was shattered, the fitting part was in one piece!

It probably wasn`t in the `holder` all those years and finally clicked out.
This happened when a friend was staying. It dropped out of the bayonet fitting luckily into his pile of clothes.

The house was haunted though, so...
I'd say it's either ghosts or ghosts.
