Nobody answered this in Home & Garden so trying the CB lot :-

I have a pair of Philips cordless phones, about a year old, and on the main phone the transformer is roasting hot all the time. It really worries me, is this supposed to happen?

It has to be plugged in permanently as its my house phone and I cant swap them over as the fitting size is different on phone 2. The transformer on the 2nd phone is cool.
Thanks for any advice.

Are you SURE you should have two phones plugged in at one time.
I don't know the technical side,but it's just an idea?

Hi Mr Veritas, its a two phone set. One main phone which connects to the BT socket and a second phone in the bedroom which receives a signal from the first.

Its standard stuff these days to have sets of phones.

WeeAl Does your main phone come with an adaptor which is plugged into the mains supply?
If this is the case,after an initial charge of about 16 hours from new you should be able to turn it off and still use it for a while before re-charging.
Have a look in the instruction manual.
It shouldn't get red hot :-S

If I unplug it I get no phone line at all. It must remain powered to make and receive calls.

Isnt that why they tell you in case of fire use a mobile cos if the power shorts you cant dial 999?

Aaaaah In that case the fault is the power supply from the white box you plug it into.
Get a BT engineer,or if you know one,an electrician to check the output from the connector.
It really shouldn't get very hot :-(

The wee white box is not a power supply, its only a phone line
