I recently posted about fear of going to the dentist but really need to go with problems of my teeth.....

this morning as i was brushing my teeth,,,,, another piece of another tooth chipped off. im not in severe pain which is good, its probably already a dead tooth. but this is scaring, why are my teeth so weak? ppl that i know have much higher sugar diet than me and they never seem to have any complaints/problems. i brush twice a day so whats the problem?? yes maybe low calcium intake =( i rarely have enough calcium.

i called the nhs this morning to find an nhs dentist, they took my details but they said they will put me on the waiting list and it can take up to 6 weeks before they can find me one. jeeezs by the time they actually find me one..... all my teeth would be dropping out!!! =( my own fault for putting it off for 18 months!! (last time i went to the dentist)

Oh whitebear i do understand .i too am terrified was very lucky to find a good NHS dentist some years ago and my late husband made sure i went and they are great. But then they went private so had to go onto denplan as i couldnt bear going anywhere else. My teeth are deteriorating too and two weeks ago one fell out !! was ashock to the system but a relief not to have the jabs. My dentist just says i have receding gums and bones in there. I hope you find a solution they are a apin from start to finish.
Mamya
they are a pain from start to finish
Hooray!! Finally got on! Sorry - computer or the site's extremely slow from this end.
Well sorry to hear about your teeth WB, but you MUST see a dentist hun, otherwise your fears'll come true. If you've got to wait for 6 weeks, it's not TOO bad if that means you'll be on someone's list. If things gets too bad, NHS Direct may be able to refer you to a hospital dentist straight away. x

hehe Sara, that made me laff, big nose =O)

i tried that site, but i would have to call every single one of them though, there was a number that an ABer gave me to call directly to nhs, and they will help me find one.

bez, i remember my last, last, last dentist (had three!!) said one of the tooth has no nerves anymore and already dead, but he said it would be a waste if he had to remove it, so he did everything to save it. he was a great dentist, but was too expensive for me. and i had moved further away from him, (from north yorks to Liverpool), so i had to find a cheap one in Liverpool.

i hope (if i get a new dentist) would be able to fix all my chipped tooth, my loose crown, and prob need loads more fillings lol. 6months to repair??!

thanks for both of your support mam, and icey!! fingers cross for me please xxxx

Of course we'll keep our fingers crossed for you hun. There's nothing worse than needing to see a dentist quite urgently, and then not being able to find one. Mind you, I hate going - but do, because the alternative's too horrible to think about.
Btw, if it came to it, you could go privately and ask if you could pay in instalments for any necessary treatment. My dentist allows that.

hey bez, im not in Liverpool any more =( wish i was thu. but thanks for recommending.

icey, i think alot of private dentist do instalments, my repairs could go into 1,000's so its best to try with the NHS i think it would only cost around 200 for extensive treatment! xx
you can get dental treatment in othe rEU countries cheaper if you need a lot of work.
Do you have a high acid diet or have you ever been sick with vomiting a lot? That can wear the enamel on your teeth making them weaker
Out of interest have you ever had your teeth whitened?Or done a whitening treatment (NOT something like sensodyne whitening) such as those that come in a box, yourself?

Right now I'd start phoning the list of Dentists (which came up on that list) and see if any have room for another NHS patient, if not start calling them all agin next week, do not just wait( 6 weeks)

My thoughts are with you.

Yes fingers crossed whitebear

Just phone around your local dentists, you will find one who takes Nhs.
Whereabouts are you whitebear ?

Teeth are not necessarily about care, I have realised. Some people have dreadful trouble with them and others sail through life with no trouble at all!
As you get older they can start to degenerate at an alarming speed though.
Could you not see a dentist for a check up privately? It doesn't cost that much more than an NHS appointment, and at least they will be able to advise you on what needs doing and the cost, privately or on NHS. Eg- I got mine cleaned AMAZINGLY at a private dentist for 35. The same thing at my NHS dentist would have cost almost the same, and they would have only sped through it.
I also pay to go private to see hospital specialists, for the initial consultation, and then go back on NHS for the treatment. It saves that initial awful wait.
Also you could join Den- plan? My parents are on that and only pay about 6 a month which includes a free check up and clean once a year, That may be faster! You can always leave !

thank you for all your kind support =)

i will try and answer all of your replies.

Pink: I'm not sure if i want to go abroad to get the treatment, but might be an option if the NHS dentist wont accept me due to the extent of the treatment, although i could do part NHS and part privately. I just need to find a good dentist using good quality materials rather than a cheap dentist. I think i do have a high acid diet, i drink alot of juices and eat alot of fruits such as oranges and grapefruit.

Cmitchell: i dont think ive ever had my teeth whitening but i use some kind of whitening toothpaste. maybe it isnt such a bad idea calling through the list, but i would need to use the work phone!!!

Ladybird: im in Leeds LS2 area

Tutubong: you were very brave!! so many extractions and fillings! i hope my doesn't have to go to that extent :0S im worried now!!

I think everyone have given me some great advices, im still scared of picking up the phone and asking around, the thought of dentist makes me want to faint!! but i really need to be brave .....if anyone can do it so can i !!!!!
hugs n kisses to u all xxxxxxx
