Hello hope everyone is doing well with their little ones, sorry i have not been on here for a while but is nice catching up with some previous posts!

Well my little boy is turning 1 next week (scary!) and I have read that you should get rid of bottles by 12 months and babies should be drinking milk from a cup.

Yesterday i tried to give Travis his afternoon feed in his beaker which he drinks water from fine but he point blank refused to take it and seemed disgusted by the taste!

Does anyone have any tips on how to wean off bottle or do you think sod it, bottles aren't doing any harm for another year or so?

Many thanks

try a beaker like this cos it is more like a bottle but is not

I'd say sod it. My daughter used cup and bottle until she was 5. She just used to pick which one she wanted at the time. she stopped using a bottle when she went to school, declaring for herself that she wasnt a baby any more. She's 12 now and absolutely fine.

Thanks, the beaker i tried is similar to that but no joy!
every child is different, taking information from a book about children is good but take it with a pinch of salt.

Yeah I know, and its not like i follow books religiously but i actually wanted to get rid of bottles now cos i thought it would be easier then when hes 2 say, when im also trying to get rid of dummy and blanket! But looks like i have left it too late anyway!
My son who is 10 a half months has no interest in even holding his bottle yet never mind changing to a beaker! He just laughs when I try and get him to hold it! I think its just when they are ready.... My daughter on the other hand was on a beaker by now......

It funny you should say that because he doesnt really hold his bottle either but will happily hold his beaker when drinking water.
My son just laughs again and chucks his across the room!!!! He is so cheeky! He just laughs at me all the time! I love him to pieces though! :O)
I would try a more 'bottle like' cup which is different to the cup he is used to drinking water from.
There are loads out there so its just a case of trying different ones. If you have no luck I don't suppose it really does any harm to just keep the bottle anyway!
The only reason you are advised to wean off them is like dummys they can affect babies teeth.
A baby of 12 months though shouldn't need milk through the day now just on a morning and night. At this age they should get everything they need from food.

He is quite a fussy eater and doesnt drink a full bottle of milk anyway so i wont be dropping a milk feed until he drops his second nap. Think ill just keep the bottle, i suppose im brushing his teeth before bed and morning so it cant do that much harm! Thanks for all advice.
