How do I work out how much topsoil I need? I know the area, I know the depth, how does this translate into weight?

Depending on the moisture content, 1 cubic foot of soil weighs about 40 pounds... 27 cubic feet to the cubic yard or 1080 pounds to the cubic yard... You'll have to do the math to convert to your system...

I think top-soil is usually ordered in cubic metres so you probably will not need the weight.

The best way we use in the business is to find the volume in cubic metres and then multiply by a factor of 2.3 This allows for the bulking factor of soil

Sorry forgot to say if you get the volume in cubic metres and multiply by 2.3, it gives the require topsoil in tonnes
