almost every town had one back in the 70s and 80s :)
I remember dressing up as mermaid, astronauts, st Trinians.
It was always good fun, and i even got away with squirting a policeman with a waterpistol :)

those were the days!

Red i think you mean like what they have in scotland , gala days.
Im talking carnaval.
Nearest thing to it i think would be notting hill in london.
I just wondered if anyone had maybe been to rio to the carnaval.
Btw its spelt carnaval .

 DID THAT HELP ?
Nope they were definately Carnival Days!

the only gala's were school swimming galas, not the same.

But then again a Carnaval may be something completely different to a Carnival (notting hill, Rio etc)

Red thats my point .
In scotland the mining communities used to have what they called a gala day where everyone wasoff work there were floats and parades etc.
A swimming gala sound sto me very american.
I mean how many small villages then or even now have or had a swimming pool?

Carnaval was originally a catholic celebration its all to do with lent and not eating meat etc.
in spanish countries its called carnaval in italy i believe it was carnevale.

carne is spanish for meat , and the italian and spanish languages are very similar.

Nott hill carnival .....drugs ...stabbings ...riots ....
Never been tempted to go ....lol

Your local street corner,.....drugs ...stabbings ...riots .... but does that stop you going out sir? I go to the carnival every year with the kids on kids day and never encountered any problem,i also go to the adults day, again no problem, but im sure if i stayed till after the carnival finished, when all the fun seekers have gone home and your just left with the drunks, drugged up folk there would be trouble. Just like at all pubs and clubs, full of fun and friendly at the begining, but as folk get drunker&higher and confused your going to get problems, agreed?
Question Author
I think for the amount of people that are at these carnivals the amount of trouble is minimal.
Lets forget its still real life and these things happen daily , but with such large numbers present the number of problems doesnt rise preportionally so id need to agree more with squilla than sir im afraid.
