With the lack of a suitible topic for this question (a problem which most of us have come across), I decided to post it here.
As St Paddy's Day and St Andy's day are both holidays for Ireland and Scotland respectively, shouldn't St Georgie's Day be a holiday for England (and perhaps St Dave's day a holiday for Wales, if it isn't already)? Or would that be descrimination against the Irish and Scottish?

Well, I'm sorry for that mis-information. Let me rephrase; Should everyone in the UK get a holiday for their respective Saints' days? And I'm only talking about Saints George, David, Andrew and Patrick.
That would be nice, but it's bound to cause offence to someone, these things usually do!
Yes lets all have a holiday for are respective Saints.Mine being St George,But seeing I was born on St Andrews day 30 nov- I think I Should get that day off To!!
What say we reduce the number of winter days holidays.......shuffle them about a bit say between May and October?   And at the same time why not fix Easter to for example the first Sunday in April?

Nobody really knows who St George was, if he existed.  He may have been Turkish, Palestinian and/or a Roman soldier.  He not believed to have visited England and probably only had a rough idea of where it was.  The previous patron Saint, St Edward the Confessor is remembered for letting the Normans in and for dying a virgin after 35 years of marriage.  Isn't it time we held an election?
Well St George is one of Spains favourite saints and we have a fiesta to celebrate him - mind you - we celebrate everyone - soon there'll be St.netibiza.(well not too soon I hope)
Skids I had a look at the website, voted no to a St. George's Day Bank Holiday and ma pc went haywire-is that just co-incidence?
No, it's complete B0ll0cks. As johntheplamf said St. Andrews day is not a holiday in Scotland, it's treated with exactly the same non-importance as St. Dod's is in England. Just 'cause the Irish make a bluddy song and dance about their saints day, doesn't mean that we all have to jump up and doon on some totally irrelevant day of the year and shout Whoopee!! my parents were on this or that piece of land when I was born - nationalism - what a lot of absolute pish.

chillum we'll put you down as undecided then, yeah?

Not everyone in Ireland gets st paddys day either John!
I always have st paddys ady off as its my b'day anyway lol, i must admit its great when im out for my b'day the atmosphere is fab though i di hate guiness i always end with a one of those lovely promotional hats LOL! but then it ends up in the gutter the same night as its covered in god knows what and i cant stand them cluttering my space up. I bet there are some collectors out there mind. Sorry i will answer the question i think it is fair enough if there is a majority agree with it but if they dont than thats fair to we dont miss what we dont have. Just an excuse to have more days off i suppose but i do think  we should be proud to be british
