Does one have to purchase "special" bark chippings for potting up orchids or can one use the "decorative" bark chippings .. which are much cheaper?

I have several old cymbidiums already and just bought a single phalaenopsis (really brilliant value at Lidl's, with two flowering stems yet to open, but needs a bigger pot immediately).

Cheers.
