How did they get your bank details? Seriously, how do you think it happened?

someone did that to my sons had 700 out of his but he did get it all back he had his card cloned when he used it in york
Ouch! Bad news. Same happened to me some months back. Card details obtained by spyware in my computer. Took 3 months for me to get my money back, and the people responsible were traced to Amsterdam and passing info on to others in Poland. Had to have new bank cards and have the computer professionally wiped. Never will I use a card to pay for anything over the internet again.
Don't worry about your overdraft, when you get the loss refunded you will also get any that was incurred with the overdraft. I speak from experience as I had exactly the same thing happen to me last year. Make sure your card is cancelled and change any passwords etc if you bank on line.
Here is a way to avoid spyware and hackers getting your bank details online:

Get a free booting CD of Ubuntu Linux and do all your financial transactions from this. Never use your day-to-day Windows OS for financial stuff.
may be easy to track them down if they're flying. Someone used mine to insure her house. It was accidental and I didn't lose anything, but they gave me a new credit card as the old one was compromised. A nuisance having to change the number I'd registered at Amazon etc.

It could be yours was accidental too - I don't know how mine happened, maybe someone just gave Churchill the wrong number over the phone and the operator mysteriously didn't check it or something, but obviously the woman wasn't hoping to get away with something, she was living there.
well in just a few minutes Iv'e read of four people who have had money taken from their accounts, and replaced by their banks, makes you wonder how much banks lose to this kind of thing.
logic - the banks don't lose. The loser is the poor devil that took the payment with the fraudulent card, 7 times out of 10. It is part of the terms and conditions.
I always use a paid up card on the internet, costs about 10 to buy one but well worth peace of mind. Do hope you get your cash back, it's a horrid thing to happen to you.
My son has just had his identity stolen. Someone even knew his last 2 addresses etc. He had 34 applications for credit, loans, mortgages in his name. Luckily because he is mortgaged up to the hilt the applications were unsuccessful. He has now got a fraud alert put against his name, but it is very worrying. He has no idea how this happened he works in IT and is very security conscious.
