Friends are going to Malta next month for a week.  What provision should they be making for medical cover?  Does Form 111 cover Malta?  If so does this have to be filled in every year?  Some work colleagues think that it has been replaced by a new system.  Anybody know if this is correct?

Malta has joined the EEC so the E111 will cover you - it has changed recently, so go to the post office and get the new form - you need one for each person - they will give you info leaflets with the forms

Thank you both.  The information has been passed on.
Your friends should be considering taking out travel insurance in addition to the E111, as the latter does not provide for repatriation, air ambulance etc., in the event of a serious accident or illness, which could run to many thousands of pounds.
