Copying photos etc to disk.

What does it mean when copying photos etc to a disc, some come up with a message saying something like this:

"This file has hidden information, that will be lost if you copy, do you wish to continue"?

Can anyone please tell me why this is?

you are probably copying them from a NTFS formatted drive which supports customisable file security and permissions to a disc that uses a file system that doesn't support these (such as a FAT32 formatted external hard drive/usb stick or a CD.)

It's not something that an average user needs to be worried about, just let it continue.

LOL no problem :)

basically different storage devices (disks) can be formatted in different ways, some ways support more features than others. you are obviously copying from a disk that supports more features than the one you are copying to.

The hidden information you are losing would be custom security permissions, which is only really of any relevance on a network setup when you can use the extra security permissions to stop people opening certain files they shouldn't. in a home setup with one user then they are not really used or needed.
