My wife is presently being verbally threatened, Her sister split with her boyfriend, who then with the help of his new girlfriend began what i can only discribe as a terror campaign, They have threatened both my sister in law and my wife, via text, verbally and on face book, They have contacted the police, and my sister in law took out a restraining order, which he broke, but the police refuse to persue as he didn't threaten her at that time, my sister in law has had her windshield smashed, her ntl box hacked when she changed her phone number, Threats have consisted of I'm sending you a present that will go bang, I'll stab you in the back, all which the police have seen, Yet neither the police or the lawyer seem willing to do anything more than send letters, My wife has to collect our children from the office at school, as the new girlfriend threatened to stab her there.. if i was to take the law into my own hands, i have no doubt they'd arrest me without missing a heart beat.. Yet we seem powerless.. the standing threat is we'll all have something of a big bang on november 5th...

Can anyone tell me how i'm supposed to protect my family???

Hi. First of all I sympathise with what sounds like a horrible dilemma for you all. This is a serious case of harressment from how you describe it, and I cant see why it isnt being treated as such. Has your wife spoken to the school to alert them of these potential threats? and I dont quite understand how all of this come about? I take it your sister in-law has also informed the police of these threats. You may already have been advised this, but I would keep a record of any verbal threats made against you or your family, and make sure you log all of it . Keep on at the police and the lawyers, you need to be taken seriously here. This situation sounds viscious, intimidating and like downright harressment. Save any text messages received, and anything from facebook. Is it worth going to citizen,s advice about this? They may only point you in the direction of a lawyer, which seems to be where you are at now? But it could be worth a try. Explore every avenue, even visit another solicitor yourself for a second opinion on this, some in your local area may offer free 30 min consultations. Again it could be worth looking into. Pursue this until you find someone who can recognise these threats as the serious nature that they are. And treat them as such. Good luck.
Keep a diary of every single incident. Call your local police and demand that they record an incident - which is simply a case of them registering it and giving you a log number. Insist on getting the log number and keep it next to the incident in your diary.

Use the words, I am feeling threatened, I am very frightened and I am fearful for my safety. For police to visit, they need to hear the words, if this continues there will be a breach of the peace or if this continues someone is going to be hurt.

Ask the police to issue an harassment warning, which means they are basically warned about their conduct. This is a trivial way to deal with it, but if they then breach that harassment warning they should be arrested.

Insist on registering a complaint with the local policing team manager.

Injunctions are civil proceedings, consequently they are not enforced by the police. Harassment warnings are a different matter. Be a pain in the arse to the police. Report every incident - their crime stats will jump through the roof and their management will insist that they do something about it.

With the police it really is a case of he who shouts loudest...

Keep shouting!
im going through the same as your wife so i know how it feels. i swore at my aggravator after being assaulted and now I...yes I...have breach charges pending, even although i had witneses to say i had been abused for over an hour.
my advice.....get a good lawyer asap....catalogue everything and dont take their bait at all.....these evil people will make out your the baddies.......just like I have.
good luck
