I mentioned a Labradoodle in an earlier post and started wondering how a Poodle and Labrador would mate, what with there being a size difference, or is the Poodle, one of those giant ones?

If not, then I would presume the mother would have to be the Labrador, would this be correct?

Thanks everyone for your input. I googles it yesterday and found they have been bred since the 1980's in Australia. I thought they were a relatively new breed, so the newer "thoroughbred" Labradoodles are bred with each other to keep the lineage going.

I'm not sure how it's done here in the UK, as perhaps it's still a new breed of dog here and Labs and Poodles are still mating.
Lankeela, I'm obviously behind the times on 'goldies' here . Are we following a US trend? In the USA they were second in AKC regs in 2003 and are now 4th.
French bulldogs? Fashionable is the very word the KC uses , noting an increase of 49 per cent in 2008. They must be next !
Rottweillers down from 6578 to 2600 and Dobermanns, down 45 per cent, are going the other way from 2006 to 2008 .
I note that we Pulik managed 70 and Lancashire heelers 158.I'm looking for a Dandie Dinmont.I had one years ago. I was told by the breed club, that if I got a bitch (preferred) they'd want, expect, me to breed from her. That's how endangered Dandies are.
Frenchies are going for about 1500 - 2000 a time, so no doubt some people are breeding just to make money.

Our Heelers are up by 12 on last year, our problem is an eye problem which we are waiting for a DNA test for, then people will start breeding again. Most litters these days are bred by 'pet' people who don't take the eye problem seriously, then those of us who do get the blame for the breed having problems.

One of the people who started the Vulnerable Breed Group has Dandies, I love their big eyes. They want people to breed to help save them from extinction, but of course they
don't want people just to breed for money, but for the good of the breed. They actually have people wanting them, but there are so few puppies about.

I think the days of the big dogs have gone, most people want something smaller and therefore cheaper to feed etc.
You have to be a real enthusiast to take on a big dog these days.
