My house is built into a hillside so some of the rooms are "underground". In one particular room which has only one small window ventilation is a real problem. During the winter months the central heating keeps the air circulating and dampness is not an issue. During the summer months the cold air gets trapped towards the back wall. I purchased a dehumidifier several years ago and it does indeed work. It makes a noise so I switch it on in the morning and keep it running throughout the day. The 16l relates to the tank capacity. The tank holds the water extracted from the air. This needs to be emptied when it becomes full. During the summer I have to empty the tank every 2 days - that is a lot of water.

Any supplementary methods of ventilation will also help.
Just continuing from the above. I should have mentioned that the room is tanked therefore so damp is coming from the outside into the room. The damp is caused by steam from cooking, perspiration ... If damp is penetrating from the outside a dehumidifier may help but will not cure the problem.
Assume you mean 'damp is NOT coming in from outside..' in your second reply.
Sorry buildersmate you are absolutely right. I should have read through my answer prior to posting. Damp is NOT coming in from the outside.

Mine is a rather old brown one. They do some very stylish models nowadays and they vary in size to suit most houses and problems. As a rule of thumb the larger the capacity of the water tank the larger the model. It depends on what size you can accommodate and how often you can be bothered to empty the tank. Mine is about the same size as a 20 litre slimline Brabantia pedal bin.
If not going to be an ongoing problem you can hire them I did from a builders merchant I think it was

Although I did eventually buy one
