I really admired the late Pope but does anybody else feel very uneasy about the materialism surrounding the present events in the Vatican. Somehow I dont see Christ there walking in such opulence.

In a Pickle, I just find myself agreeing with everything you say! When my friend and I visited the Vatican we couldn't believe the tackiness of that gift shop!

BTW, jjaammeess, the fact that the Catholic Church is one of (the?) biggest property owners in the world, while many millions of Catholics live in abject poverty should tell you everything you need to know about Catholism and religion in general. The Pope just added to the misery of the faithful by telling them to keep on breeding and helping the spread of AIDS.

I have no objection whatsoever to any drinks machine being installed in what was one of the most hellish stair climbs i have done in my life.

If you come out of the st peters and go left, down the street by the bus stop...now THOSE items are classic. Strange semi holographic pictures of Jesus that wink as you walk by...where will they draw the line?

why did you admire the pope?

its fairly obvious the finery surrounding the catholic church was a greedy corrupt way of obtaining more material wealth in days gone by. . . buying indulgences etc.
