Mondeo headlight ?

i have a 1.8 Mondeo estate i have just purchased 2nd hand , when i bought it the main headlight didnt work but the high beam did , i have just replaced the bulb with a new one but strangely still have the same problem no main light but the high beam works , does anyone know what the problem could be , any ideas would be greatly appreciated , many thanks , keith

If you touched the glass end of the bulb than it will not last.
Also check it is not loose in the housing.
