I've just done a recovery on a friends Compaq Presario running Vista home premium. Before the recovery it had Service Pack 1 on , I've just downloaded all available MS updates , restarted & rechecked & no sign of SP1 . How can this be ? It was all set up to automatically download before if this makes any difference .

I think Microsoft "drip feeds" SP1 out to users rather than offering it to everyone all at once.

If you wait you will probably be offered it in a day or so.

If you want to you can download the file yourself, but I think you are better waiting till MS offer it to you, that way you know you have all the correct fixes on beforehand.

But VHG what I was saying it was on the laptop before (should have mentioned I've done HP updates for the machine itself ) I did the recovery so was obviously offered once so why not this time ?
goto windows update and select custom rather then express and you should be able to select it.

you often have to run the update a couple of times to get everything too
