Hello Sedge47
7ac) threw me for a while, an elegant clue, I felt.
7a. Hi DocHH. Yes, a nice clue with "no employment" giving "nil work". The one which took me longest was 16a - not getting the answer, but working out the wordplay.

Thanks everybody but how did you see this question as far as I can see it only appears in "my profile" not in any general column.
It's in the "Crosswords" topic (subset of Quizzes & Puzzles)
With 16a I got the first part OK, but how does "drawn" translate into "x" ? All I could think of was signing with an "x".
Hi BigDave. I took the x to be how you select draws on the football pools !! (pretty tenuous I admit)
Thanks - it seems that there is at least one iffy clue each day !! Funnily enough, I had no problem with 7a - a lucky guess at the author perhaps !!
I'm sure, after the history of your musical education yesterday, that you had no problem with 11a !!
Right on - do you realise that it is only just over two weeks to the fiftieth anniversary of his death !!
The History of Pop Music, 1955 - 1965 is my specialist subject!
