just bought a nokia 7610 supernova (great phone btw)..but i'm looking for better headphones. it comes with 2.5mm jack stereo headphones, and i think this is a normal standard for a lot of devices. can i buy any make for any device and they'll still work on my phone

Not so sure: Standard headphones have a Ring,Tip, Sleeve plug, the socket on the Nokia has two rings (one for a mic). You may need to use an adaptor as shown here:
