Anyone know how to adjust a car key for a Peugeot 406? I think the frequency is out of sync (?).  The batteries are new but it won't lock or unlock the car remotely.  The second key is fine.

Not certain but try this - I've got an Astra and the fob occasionally needs resetting. To do this I put the key in the ignition, turn it to point two where all the lights illuminate, and press the 'lock' pad. The central locking locks and unlocks, and the fob is reset.

Morello, thanks for the answer, but what do mean by the "lock" pad - do you mean physically press the door lock?  If so, it doesn't work for me.  Thanks again.
I think you'll have to get the manual out of the glove box. Morello's procedure for an Astra isn't the same as what I have to do for my Golf, so your Peugeot is likely to be different again.
I mean the lock pad/button/area on your key. Ah well, worth a try.

Thanks all - still no success!!  How do you do it for your Golf, Ralph?
From the manual (since I'd get it wrong from memory!):
Synchronisation
If the vehicle cannot be opened by pressing the radio transmitter button, it could be that the code of the key no longer matches that of the control unit in the vehicle. This can occur if the transmitter button is frequently pressed outside the effective range of the system.
The infrared (?) key must be resynchronized. The synchronization process must be completed within 1 minute:
1 - Press either the open button or close button on your radio wave key once for approx. one second. The vehicle will remain locked. The control unit, however, recognises a valid code.
2 - Now lock or unlock your vehicle using the key.
3 - The key bite is recognised as the valid mechanical code. A new code is defined between the key and the control unit. The synchronisation procedure is complete.

Let us know how you get on!
