my father is 89 years old and over the past two months his lower and upper lips keep swelling up.
his teeth do not hurt when pressure is applied but the inside of his mouth is very sore. he looks like homer simpson in the morning but the swelling does appear to diminish during the day/evening. his doctor has twice subcribed a course of amoxillin but it does not seem to have an effect other than to give him a rash on his arms.
anyone come across this before?

So has he only been tried on antibiotics rather than any antihistamines to see if it might be an allergy?

I've had swollen lips and they gave me antihistamines and a lady in Boots recommended some really good lip stuff to make them less sore as they got all dry as well.

Is he mentally sound, just in case he could be doing something which is aggravating it like things being too hot or even biting or chewing them in the night or a problem with dentures?

Does he have any other medical conditions and is he on any other medication?

Random question but he doesn't have any latex anywhere near his mouth does he?
