London Hotels with stunning view

I would like to surprise my girlfriend with a stay in a London hotel that has stunning views of the city and sauna/spa facilities. Any advice? Im thinking about Canary Wharf.

I spend three nights at Hilton Park Lane Hotel London in March2007. Although we stayed in the only available twin-bedded room at the ground floor with no view to Amstel river, it was very clean with plenty of space compared to other hotels in the city. The breakfast included everything and all the different faces in the reception were always friendly. The most convenient way to reach it from the central station is the metro, although we hesitated using it in the begining. The area although near all the interesting sites is rather quite and you may find some interesting places for dinner in the Utrechtstraat, just two block far. I highly recommend it.

Canary Wharf - Never! It is like a ghost town in the evening once all the city-types have gone home. Please avoid! For stunning views look at the Marriott County Hall right opposite Big Ben and Parliament; the Hilton on Park Lane has a great offer at the mo on ebookers.co.uk for �286 for 2nights bed and breakfast which can't be beat - good views over Hyde Park and walkable to Harrods or Oxford Street for retail therapy. The Trafalgar has viewsof Trafalgar Sq. Of course all of these are requireing you to get a room with a view and not one of the fire escape. Spa/Sauna facilities in central London is a bit harder to find!

I've stayed three times at the Tower Thistle Hotel - I think its a Guoman hotel now, and was impresssed by the views. If you are lucky you get a bedroom with a view over the Thames - the bar actually looks out over Tower Bridge and is stunning when it's lit up at night. The back bedrooms look out over St Katherine's dock.

Well now the hotel with the best view (The Savoy) is closed for reconstrction, so that's out.

The Canary Wharf Hotels I cannot answer for.However the others (I am glad to say ) I have stayed in, and can vouch for the views.

Is a very nice hotel(I have stayed here too) BUT is has the disadvantage of worse public transport connections than even Canary Wharf.However,it has sweeping river views and is VERY quiet at night,but a taxi would be required to take you anywhere.I used to do it cheap by just getting a taxi to the nearest Tube station (Fulham Broadway if remember correctly).
If you need any more advice on any of the Hotels just ask,except Canary Wharf which is unknown territory to me!

Has a vested interest in Hilton Hotels.
If they do I pity Hilton Hotels,as abhithab seems to have NO idea which Hotel is in which city!

if you do go to Canary Wharf, check with London Transport first; the DLR has been closed at weekends quite often recently and the Jubilee line sometimes closes too. There aren't a lot of things to do there after dark but if trains are running it's actually reasonably handy to the West End, and the views are good.
