On a lighter note (lighter than the "God and the Pope" debates that are raging in other Sections ...

Embarrassing hats !!

My childhood was an endless succession of hats ... boaters, bonnets, berets, etc. A lot of the time, it was part of a school uniform, which was okay. But ...

... in the course of digging out the Christmas decorations, Daddy brought down a box containing one of my boaters. It has a blue, stripey band around it, and a huge bow at the side (yes ... on the side!).

I bought this hat in my 20's (yeah yeah, I know!). I wore it once, to Henley. Now, 20 years later, it comes back to haunt me.

So what embarrassing items lurk in your loft ?

I don't have a loft either, 4get.

Probably just as well, given the stuff that keeps appearing out of my parents' loft !

I have a collection of door to door salesmen that knocked on the door while I was eating my tea!

My God you're in your 40s? I thought you were younger than me!

No hats for me, except some bloody ghastly Paddington Bear monstrosity my mum forced upon me when I was 7. I looked like an elf as my ears poke out. I, however, have an obsession with making my 8month old wear hats all time.
photographic evidence of my first school uniform . . . . brown and mustard . . . . i kid you not.

Why did our mums always make us look like a cross between Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, and a giant meringue ?
I have a loft and there is nothing up there as we only moved in 15months ago and all that was up there was the xmas tree which is now in the living room.

Aww, thanks Nat.

Not sure how I made myself sound younger. I must work on that !!

And yes, I'm 42.

But I look 32.

And I behave like I'm 22.

Daren't look JJ....I know OH put a mounted steers head up there!!
My mum wanted me to be a bear obviously, she used to make me wear Rupert bear trousers.

One summer, at Butlins, my brother who was four entered a fancy dress competition as a policeman, but the compere blokey thought I had entered as a clwon but it was actually a chequered two peice that my mum forced me into! Mortified at 7 years old? Not much.... :-O
