Modern sexism in advertising!

Just saw an advert at the moment for a certain supermarket chain where a middle aged couple are shopping and the man forgets an item and goes off to get it.The lady turns to the female cashier and says "what are they like!" and they both laugh. If the genders where changed however this would be blatantly sexist and banned. It took decades of work to make advertisers/companies etc change and stop being sexist to women. It seems they didn't learn that sexism is wrong just that they can't get away any more with being sexist to women so they have turned the tables and it's now 'ok' it seems to be sexist as long as it's against a man!

how true!
the amount of women ogling men's ars es on adverts on tv is staggering. Frankly I don't care if it was the other way around in the 70s, if it's good enough for the girls it's good enough for us guys. Let's start a 'girls bums out' campaign.

Sorry, I know your point was to stop sexism, but I seriously don't mind admitting that men and women are sexist in private.
It's very simple to solve, all stores should have a massive wide screen LCD TV just inside the front door showing on a loop England winning the World Cup in 1966, and then men wouldn;t get in the way when us women are actually shopping.
Fine by us, Dot. Then we wouldn't get dragged round interminable shops just to half-heartedly reassure you every 5 minutes that no, your bum doesn't look big in that. ;-)

The biggest problem I have with those stupid Somerfield ads is the idea that everyone knows each other as lifelong friends. I wouldn't go into a Somerfield now for fear I'd be gatecrashing a private function.

I do agree with calvin though - two wrongs do not make a right.
Get a Life,calvin!!!!
A great idea Dot so long as you ladies are prepared to add another 90 min or so to your shopping time, after all you couldn't expect us gentlemen to get up and leave half way through a game like that
Oh dear. Calvin - seriously, you call "what are they like?" sexism???? How about women getting paid on average 17% less than men (and widening), how about years and years of putting up with "comedians" telling dumb blonde & mother-in-law jokes (never father-in-law jokes are they?), how about there never being any strong, savvy female heriones in the movies who don't also happen to have huge appendages (and still need saving by a man!), how about the fact that although 80% of purchasing decisions in the UK are made by women, 83% of advertising creatives are men, so even if the ads are having a mild chuckle at men's expense, the chances are it was thought up by a man anyway! tut
