I am looking for the average costs of things (milk, newspaper, etc etc) in 1977. Can anyone help - or point me towards a relevent website that has this information. thank you.

The Office of National Statistics has the information you want in yearly books - these can be accessed at a main library.

You would think it would be easy to find this information online, but I have drawn a blank.

�4.48 using the retail price index. (probably �4.70 by 2008)
�7.55 using average earnings (�7.90 ish now)
