Hello everyone.  I recently had my tongue pierced and now I am making my first visit to the dentist since.  Should I take my tongue bar out?? Please can I have sensible answers from people who have or have had a pierced tongue please.  The last time I got horrible answers from people who have a thing against piercing. Thanks everyone x

I wouldn't have thought you would have to take it out, my friend has hers done and she never takes it out when she goes.  I would be prepared for a lecture of the dentist about what it can do to the enamel on your teeth though!

no, you don't have to take it out, i went to the dentist with mine in and it was fine. Also went with my lip ring in and they didn't say anything apart from telling me to keep an eye on it in case it started to damage the teeth.
I used to have mine peirced and, as hectic points out, apart form the lecture they were fine.  May depend from dentist to dentist though.
Mine didn't ask me to take mine out or even give me a lecture.  Thankfully!

Ive had my toungue pierced for about seven years now and for many years going to the dentist I got a long lecture everytime about how he would refuse to fix my teeth for me if I cracked or chipped them on the tongue bar.  Ive now changed dentist and just get disapproving looks instead.  If you ever need to have an x-ray at the dentist you will probably be asked to remove it as it interferes with the x-ray. On reading the other replies though Im relieved to hear Im not the only one who had a hard time from their dentist, but its obvious that dentists have a big problem with them, though I dont think its their place to pass comment or judgement if an individual chooses to have a piercing.

Curious79: Yeah same, my dentist was fine, and even swapped the lecture, for a few suggestive remarks!!!! ;)

**Must remember to make a new appointment....or fake toothache** lol

(would like to add that my dentist is a young one, not some old balding man!!!!!)
