A friend of mine gets a super pressie every year from her boss, but mine has never done this and I wouldn't expect it but just wondered if others get a pressie and if so, what?

It is a nice gesture and I always gave my staff a small gift.

I would be appalled though if public and civil servants got gifts
why
We get a tin of biscuits in the tearoom and we used to get a creme egg at Easter!
****** all, he used to get us easter eggs at one point but would put themn on his company cre dit card, when the md stopped it, he stopped buying them!
Nope, I even have to pay for the christmas dinner for myself that I cook for everyone!! I expect nothing and am never disappointed :o)

I have however bought something for the 2 ladies that work with me as we work as a team and I appreciate the work they do.
I have two line managers but only one buys me a gift. Its usually chocolates and a bottle of something.

Wingnut, me too, we have some volunteers and myself and a colleague buy their presents. The boss wouldn't dream of it!
Our patients bring us in chocolates, biscuits, 15-year old Harvey's Original, Liebfraumilch or, if we're very lucky, a bottle of Baileys. They're very generous on the whole.

We have a xmas party - 3-course meal & free wine & disco, and a small (taxable) bonus. Not bad I supose... mustn't grumble.... but we do.
Some of the Consultants here have been known to give their PA's a little christmas bonus. We often get presents or thank you cards from patients and I've been given a few of the presents. More likely they pay for dinners when members of their team leave. I don't think I'll get anything from my Consultants.
It's amazing that most consultants have short arms & long pockets. They all can't be from Yorkshire or Scotland.
I used to work in an office as a secretary with three other secretaries. Each of the others was given a present by their boss, but not me. The other bosses were so appalled that they clubbed together and got me the equivalent of what the others had. Apparently they told my boss what for, but he never blinked an eyelid. He was known to be an old skinflint and never ever thanked anyone for anything. He was very hard to work for. I did not stay. The usual office presents were chocolates or a bottle of wine.
Mine used to get me chocolates for years, even though she knew I didn't eat them. The last year she was there, she bought me some perfume. She was quite generous, but then we found out she'd been embezzling, so whose money was she spending?
i'm a public servant (up until recently i was a civil servant)
we don't get an official gift, like a bonus or anything, so its up to individual team leaders to decide whether they want to give their staff a gift. This year and last our team leader bought a tin of roses for us to share and bought us a drink each when we went out for our christmas meal. Other team leaders have been known to buy all their staff a bottle of wine each, or individual gifts, but like i said, it's down to each manager
when I was young, free and single (not very unlike now!) my boss gave me a rather unexpected, but very pleasant Christmas present.

oohh errrrr ;o)
When I worked for construction related businesses the suppliers used to give lots of bottles and other gifts to the directors and buyers; they would then share them between everyone in the office. However, at my last employer a very large multi-national, my line manager and my section manager used to buy something for their teams. I think this is a more meaningful gesture as they have to purchase the gifts themself.

I'm an agency staff for a high street bank working in an Office.

my line manager always treats us as one of his permanent staff, e.g. for the company xmas do, all perm staff gets 35 towards it, there are 7 perms, and 4 agencies temp staff.
he was soo nice that he invited us all for the xmas do, not paying a single penny!!!!

elsewhere........ the temp would have to pay towards it.

he also bought all of us a bottle of nice wine... he do this every year!! what a nice bloke!!!
My boss generally gives a little something e.g bottle of wine etc and we all take turns to bring in sweets or biscuits for the office. But then we also buy something for the boss as a thank you for looking after us for the year. What goes round comes round! Our next level up boss gave us some money today to buy us all a drink or two as we were going out for lunch (we all paid for our own lunch). As everyone was driving, it ended up being coffees and soft drinks, but we all appreciated it.
